one of those great days

Our house is a total wreck right now. There are boxes of Christmas decorations in the hallway waiting to go in the attic, dog hair piling in every corner, a bathroom that is in desperate need of cleaning, toys everywhere, dirty dishes in the sink, laundry waiting it's turn, my first sewing project spread out over the dining room table, and cookies that need to be made for L's school party tomorrow. Presents need to be wrapped, Christmas cards to be mailed, shopping to finish and holiday baking to be started and completed. And I stink to high heaven after a great work out at the gym this morning. I may have to delay my work until I get a shower. Matt would probably appreciate that.

What in the heck am I doing blogging right now? :)

But it's okay. No, I'm not being lazy or exhibiting extreme avoidance issues. I'm just savoring a morning spent watching my two precious children begin building the fragile and wonderful relationship between siblings. Somehow we ended up on the (dog hair covered) floor of our bedroom playing with Lincoln Logs and a Fisher Price toy. Ava is fascinated with her big brother and loves sitting up (with my help, of course) to see him play. My heart leaps every time Lucas patiently shows Ava how to do something or brings her a toy to play with. And talk about building his ego; Ava showers Lucas with laughs and smiles everytime he is near her. All he has to do is say "boo!" or do a little dance to earn her slobbery praise! Even with the potty training, Ava's presence encourages Lucas to "go t-t standing up!" We've gone cold-turkey with potty training and cut out all pull-ups except for sleeping. He asks me all the time to bring Ava in the bathroom so she can watch him. (Any advice for getting him to do "number 2" in the potty? He always does it during nap time in his pull up. I would love some suggestions.)

Okay, enough of the potty talk.

So I'm one happy Mama today. I guess I should hit that shower now? (After I clean it, of course!)

Don't think I'm weird but it was so great to read about your "total wreck" house. My house is feels like total chaos right now and sometime I feel so lame for not being able to hold it together. Reading about your day is a reminder that I'm normal - it happens to all of us and it's way more important to spend that time with our kids than sweeping up dog hair! Thanks friend! :)

Hey! I added your blog to my blog reader. You do a great job! Oh, this is Molly by the way. ;-)

I bribed Cogan with a new Thomas train if he would poop on the potty. To make a VERY long story short, He eventually did it ONCE. Now I am out 20 buck with nothing to show for it, because he is pooping in his pull-up first thing in the morning or after nap again.

I asked Cogan what makes him a big boy (looking for "big boys poop on the potty" as an aswer). And he said, "Jesus makes me a big boy!". I had to laugh... yes, no matter what I try to do on my own... it is by God's Grace alone that Cogan will ever poop on the potty!

Baby steps

Guess what? I'm taking steps today to get just a little closer to my dream. We're off to the gym in a little bit to keep working towards losing those 38 pounds. I'm also working on a plan to sell specialty homemade cheesecakes during the holidays. Doing something I love and making some extra money for the people I love. Pretty great stuff!

Special K

I have developed a rather fond relationship with Kellogg's Special K Vanilla Almond. Low in fat (only 1.5 g) and made with whole grains, I eat this tasty treat as a meal and a snack. I'm eating some right now. Special thanks to Kat for introducing me to this delightful cereal. Our local Ingles has been running it on sale this past week, 2 for $4, so I stocked up. The milk is even on sale too, 2 for $5, making this treat yummy and affordable. Sweet, crispy flakes and crunchy almonds. What more could a girl ask for. By the way, you should go to Ingles. Everything is on sale. I picked up some lean ground beef today for $1.38 per pound. Now that's good for the budget. Low prices + good food = happy housewife

Let's go shopping at Aldi's!

If you're shopping at Aldi's this week, I recommend that you stock up on Eggs and Milk! Seriously, a dozen eggs for $1.09 and Milk for $2.19! The price of beef may have gone up, but I'm loving the other staples we get from a cow! I bought 4 dozen eggs this week. Overkill for sure, but when our family eats eggs, we usually eat 7 in one setting! Eggs and toast are a staple breakfast in our house - we eat that at least 4 times a week! It's fast and filling and cheap! If you're looking for something more exciting to do with your eggs, try making a breakfast casserole! I love this casserole from Ree, the Pioneer Woman. Everything she makes is delightful, but this recipe is especially great! As with most recipes, I tweaked it a bit to fit our tastes. For all of his perfect aspects, my handsome husband does not eat mushrooms. This could have been a deal breaker for me 13 years ago, but then I saw his drummer toned legs and I decided to look past his misjudgment! No ...
