Tuesday Afternoon

I have just been reminded to slow down. To make the most of my afternoon. You see, it's Tuesday afternoon, which is my weekly afternoon off. My typical work week consists of working 7:30-4:30 everyday except Tuesdays when I get to leave at 1:30. Most weeks, I tend to waste this extra time; filling it with television, house cleaning, or other rather meaningless experiences. But not today. I've decided to do something different today. Instead of the hours passing by without much effort or excitement on my part as they typically do, I am going to be delibrate in my actions (even if I decide to run errands or clean the kitchen). You may be wondering where this motivation is coming from. Well, I've just been reading the delightful writings of my friend Meg. You should check them out. ( www.babywilson.blogspot.com ) In fact, look at all of her blogs. Her talent will inspire you as it inspires me. I hope you have a grand afternoon. I'm off to bake a cake for a speci...

The News - from Sara's point of View

So, Thursday was the big day. I met Matt at the doctor's office Thursday morning. I actually hadn't been feeling well for a couple days, so it was the perfect time to see the doctor. Before I go into the details of the appointment, I must share my embarassing moment. When I first checked in, I asked the receptionist if I needed to have a full bladder for the ultrasound or if I could go to the bathroom. She didn't know, but said she would get back to me. The waiting room was full and we sat down across the room. About 10 minutes later, the receptionist leans her head out and says, "Mrs. Alexander, it's okay. You can go ahead and go." I must have looked puzzled, because she then said, "You can go ahead and go to the bathroom." People actually chuckled. I was so embarassed. But I did what any pregnant woman with a baby sitting on her bladder would do, I got up with as much dignity as I could muster and went to the bathroom. When we finally were c...

Should we paint the nursery pink or blue?

Whats up peeps.. This is Matt... yes daddy is finally making a post. I have somehow managed to shirk my responsibilities to the blog for some time now. Not that I didn't want to comment mind you, I just am usually a to the point kind of guy and I never thought of myself as much of a writer, this is where you notice the huge run-on sentence... [period] I was encourged by my lovely wife to write, however her encourgement was of the mild variety. I actually am enjoying this. This has been quite the weekend for the Alexander Family, and I want to comment about it. On Thursday, I met Sara at the Doctors office for "the" ultrasound. The one where you choose the color of the nursery. Well, we sat in the doctors office for a wait. I have a problem with sitting still.. always have. I just can't sit still for very long. I have to have something to occupy my thoughts. Especially when I am sitting waiting to find out the sex of my first born. So I look for some Mag...

Priorities

It's all about priorities right now. I know, a new post on this blog is well over due, and many of you are anxiously awaiting the news of the sex of our baby, but at the moment my eyes are drooping, my body is aching and I have heartburn. Yes my friends, it is time for a nap. (And some Tums.) I promise, tonight your curiosisty will be satisfied and hopefully you will be entertained as I should be quite refreshed from a long afternoon nap. Ah, the joys of having an excuse to sleep during the day. Sara
Yesterday afternoon, I was sitting on the couch resting after doing some work around the house, when I felt the strangest senstation in my belly. It would stop after I rubbed the area, but return a few minutes later. I felt it again today while I was chilling on the couch. (Yes, I do spend a lot of time with my feet up on the couch.) It almost feels like a movement across the inside of my tummy, located about an inch or two above my belly button and a couple inches to the left. I'm starting to wonder if the baby is rolling around inside. It doesn't feel like a kick, more like something rubbing across that area. Oh, it's incredible. What an amazing feeling to know that there is a little life growing inside of me. I'm sure all of you moms out there know what I'm talking about. It's just so amazing. I can't wait until Matt can feel the baby move when he puts his hand on my tummy. That is going to be an experience to treasure. Today at work, I was talki...

Hurray!

Hurray! We've reached the halfway mark! Ok, so the actual day was Wednesday, but I'm a little slow to get the post up! I'm so excited though! I feel like we've been climbing a mountain and have reached the first peak. Granted the only "mountain" that is actually forming is my belly and from what I'm told, I still have a long way to grow! I've been doing a little reasearch online about the baby's development and here is what I found. Our baby is about 6 1/2 inches crown to rump and around 10 inches head to toe! He or she now weighs almost 10 ounces. The baby's sense of smell has developed now! On my end of development, I'm starting to experience swollen ankles. There is just nothing appealing about chubby feet. I have spent the morning with two of my dear friends, Becky and Skye. We got up before the sun and spent the morning at yard sales. You won't believe what I found! It was the deal of the year! I purchased a crib mattres...

For all of you who were wondering about what it is like to have a pregnant wife with morning sickness... I would recommend reinforcing those nightstands.. ha ha

Where did my feet go?

Early this morning and I do mean early (around 5:45am!), I was taking a shower when I looked down and suddenly realized that I can't see my feet anymore! Now, this may have happened a while ago, and I just hadn't noticed it yet, but it is still a very strange realization. At 19 weeks and 2 days, my belly is growing fast and so is our little one. Babycenter.com says that our baby is now about 6 inches long. And he or she weighs about 8 1/2 ounces. Can you believe how much he has grown! I'm really looking forward to our next ultrasound when we will get the chance to see our baby again. Oh, how I already love this baby so much. love, Sara

New Babies

Matt and I have just gotten back from the Anderson Hospital where we met little Baby Andrew for the first time. Andrew was born last night to our friends Brian and Becky. And he is just beautiful! This is the second baby to be born to some good friends of ours in just the past two weeks. Becky's sister, Suzanne, had her second, Lauren on Good Friday. Both babies are absolutely perfect. You know, being around these precious newborns has made us all the more anxious for our little one to arrive. Although, I must say that the knowledge that our nursery is still a junk room and we haven't bought the first baby item keeps me grounded. I'm so proud of Matt. He has been off from work these past two days and has spent them working in our yard. His new favorite tool is a pruner, basically a chainsaw on a stick. He's been hacking away at our holly bushes. And the yards looks beautiful. Way to go Mattie! Love Sara

Friday Night

Matt and I just got back from going to see a movie! I really love going to the movie theater. The big screen, comfy seats, delicious popcorn.... You know, one day I'd like to have a movie theater in my home. I bet everybody would want to come visit if we had that! We saw the movie, "Guess Who", starring Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher. Very funny. It's been a while since I've laughed that much at a movie. This past Monday I had an OB checkup. It went well. The pregnancy is progressing well, nothing out of the ordinary. We heard the baby's heartbeat again. That was great. The heartbeat is heard by a device called a doppler. Basically it is a hand held device with a microphone like instrument which the doctor places on your belly to hear the baby. The first time we heard the heart beat, I was around 13 weeks. Dr Duniho had to press around pretty hard on my belly with the doppler until we heard that little guy's heart. This time was different. The ...
