He's so funny!

I've already told you about the gross things Lucas does, so I have to share some of the funny stuff he said today. He is always making us laugh with the crazy things he comes up with. Tonight we read the book, Love You Forever . I thought it was going pretty well, until I turned to the page where the son is rocking his baby and I totally lost it. Poor Lucas didn't know what to think of his blubbering Mommy. So Matt explained that one day, Lucas will be a Daddy, and that's when he informed us that he currently has a baby in his tummy, "a black one with a white head." And her name is "baby duck". Oh boy. As I was putting him to bed, Lucas informed me rather seriously that he is growing up. When I asked him why, he said it was because he eats his green beans and broccoli. He then pointed to the side of his mouth to show me the beginnings of his new beard, which he's been growing for a couple days now. Where does he come up with this stuff?

All boy

So no one prepared me for this "icky boy stuff" Lucas has started. I mean, I expected he would love all things creepy and crawly, but I had no idea the "gross" stuff would start so soon. For example, the kid wipes his buggers on the wall above his bed. He knows how to use a tissue; I taught him that lesson from the start. But somehow it didn't stick. And today, I caught Lucas going potty (#1) in the yard. I didn't think much of it, I know this is something all little boys do, but I did freak out when the little munchkin walked in a proudly announced that he did number 2 in the yard "just like Annie (the dog)". Boys are so gross! :) He did make me laugh a couple times today. Like when he told me he's starting to grow a little beard. And that one day he is going to drive his car to the gym and play raquetball. I love that he wants to be just like his Daddy. But his Daddy swears he didn't teach him to do the first two things. Where do boys le...

R.I.P Moe the Moth

Here's what to do if there's a moth in your house and you want to catch him. And you're three years old, of course: Attempt 1: use one of Mommy's rubbermaid containers to try and scoop the moth into the bowl Attempt 2: call in a high-pitched voice "come here Mr. Moth! Come here!" And say it louder and higher over and over because moths especially like that. Attempt 3: blow a whistle at the poor, stunned creature and watch with glee as he frantically tries to get away from you. Attempt 4: hit traumatized moth with aforementioned whistle At this point in the process, I left the room. I didn't want to watch an innocent creature die. I returned a few minutes later, Ava in tow to see how things were going. Wanna hear which method worked? Number 4. Miraculously the moth was still alive and I find him perched on Lucas's knuckles. I convinced Lucas to take him into the garage, but the busom buddies quickly returned because apparently Moe the Moth would...

Gonna be a great day!

I love waking up to a springtime storm. The world is just barely light outside my window, thunder gently rolls and the occasional flash of lightening warms the room. Daytime storms are my favorite type of weather. I feel very poetic and emotional to me. I first fell in love with daytime storms as a teen sitting in my front yard waiting and watching a storm roll in. The balmy wind, deep gray skies and heightened anticipation all speak to my soul. Moody, passionate, and strong. The way I like my man. Just kidding. I'm the moody one around here. I'm starting a new habit each morning. I got the idea from the Simple Mom. While my coffee is brewing, I write down the three Most Important Things (MIT) that I want to achieve today. Yesterday's list read (1) tackle 5 loads of laundry (2) sweep/vacuum floors (3) finish unpacking from weekend. The list enables me to stay focused each day and still find quality time with the kiddos. And it alleviates the guilt for not cleaning the enti...

Happy Easter

We had a great weekend back home with my family. Lucas had a blast playing with his cousin Alyssa. They are such good friends! I had a lot of fun picking out Ava's sundress and sandals. Everyone told me I would love shopping for little girls - I had no idea just how much! Every trip to the baby girl section in department stores in a lesson in restraint. My two little Easter eggs.

Deceptively Delicious

Ava appears to be in a growth spurt. She has fully recovered from her 6 day stomach virus (whatever happened to a 24 hour bug?) and has found her appetite. She takes 4 bottles a day and eats 3 "meals" a day of stage 2 babyfood. I've stopped making her food. I have no real reason for stopping except I'm over it. That's it, I'm over it. So last night while we were eating dinner (Mom's recipe for spaghetti - yum!), Matt and I were discussing Ava's love for food. I must admit, I love knowing that I have one child who will eat anything (i.e. green veggies) I put in front of her without hesitation or complaint. Lucas used to be this way - open mouthed, eager to try whatever I put before him. But as his vocabulary grew, so did his opinions about my food. We don't call him a "picky eater" because from what I've heard from other mom's, I have no right to complain. But we do have the why you must eat your beans conversation almost every nig...

What should we do today?

I made these enchiladas last week for some friends and now Matt is requesting I make it once a week! They are more like burritos than enchiladas, but oh so wonderful! You should check it out and make it this week!! I promise your family will love them! This week is spring break for Lucas. To be honest, I'm missing the 2 mornings a week I get to spend alone with Ava. We usually go to the grocery store where we hang out with senior citizens; they are, after all, the only people out and about at 9 a.m. The other morning, we usually run a couple errands and do things that aren't fun for 3 year olds. Like shopping. I should have been more prepared for this week and have activities planned in advance. I need some creative ideas for fun things I can do with Lucas and Ava this week. Any suggestions?

8 months old

Ava Grace

Can you believe this girl is almost 8 months old? I can't. She is full of joy, sass, and sweetness. And she's so cute, I just want to squeeze her all the time. So I do.
