A week has passed since my last entry and I'm not sure if I can say that I've 'slowed down'. Sure there have been moments where I stopped to just enjoy living, such as Saturday's yard saleing adventure with Meg and Skye (we hardly bought anything, but had a wonderful time just being together), or time with Matt each evening where we sit in bed and talk about our day, our dreams, our son. Ok, so maybe I have slowed down more than I thought.
I guess I just feel worn out right now after spending a couple hours running errands after work. Sam's, Hobby Lobby, the Dollar Tree, and Kmart. I've been hunting down items for a Mother's Day project at work that, of course, I have put off until the last minute when the holiday is fast approaching. But I'm really excited about it, well most of it. One of my moms, Angela, who is a professional photographer, came to school last week and took black and white photos of my kids having a blast on the playground. In the moment, gleeful playtime.
My original plan was to simply buy beautiful silver frames and give them to my Mom's as a gift to (hopefully) treasure forever. My assistant, Sheryl, however has thwarted my plans. She very subtley (or not) mentioned the idea of decorating mats around the pictures with caterpillars and butterflies made out of the children's finger prints. Cute idea, sure. But as any of you with babies know, trying to get a child to stick their fingers in ink and not smear it everywhere is next to impossible. And she claims that she isn't very creative which means that I have to do all of the work. So while I am holding a child between my legs trying desperately to make these little prints looks like something, she is standing nearby giving "advice" on how to make this even more complicated! You might think that I'm being a bit harsh, but we've been down this road before, Sheryl and I. At Christmas, I had taken pictures of the class which I had wanted to simply frame and give to the parents (you can tell I really just love simplicity in photos) when she informed me that it would be "really cute" to make wreaths using the children's handprints cut out of construction paper. Cute, until you have to cut out almost 100 little hands. I was less than amused by the time this endeaver was over.
And so, I am returning to work tomorrow with a sense of dread as I did not find the requested "colored plastic frames" but instead bought the only thing I could find and afford. Yes, I am going to try my attempt at the caterpillars and butterflies, but at any moment, I expect to be handing a couple crayons to the kids while saying, "You can decorate your own mats, I'm finished trying to make this look 'cute' ."
I'll let you know if I win.

Funny how you have to deal with both kids AND adults, isn't it?
Thanks for the smiles.
