Friday Night

Matt and I just got back from going to see a movie! I really love going to the movie theater. The big screen, comfy seats, delicious popcorn.... You know, one day I'd like to have a movie theater in my home. I bet everybody would want to come visit if we had that! We saw the movie, "Guess Who", starring Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher. Very funny. It's been a while since I've laughed that much at a movie.

This past Monday I had an OB checkup. It went well. The pregnancy is progressing well, nothing out of the ordinary. We heard the baby's heartbeat again. That was great. The heartbeat is heard by a device called a doppler. Basically it is a hand held device with a microphone like instrument which the doctor places on your belly to hear the baby. The first time we heard the heart beat, I was around 13 weeks. Dr Duniho had to press around pretty hard on my belly with the doppler until we heard that little guy's heart. This time was different. The baby has grown quite a bit and the heart beat was heard much easier. Pretty cool.

I've been having trouble with headaches lately. The kind that Tylenol won't touch, so Dr. Duniho prescribed some mild drugs to see if that would help. I've also been waking up lately in the middle of the night with killer leg cramps. The kind that make you grab your calf and feel sore the next day. Weird, huh? Well, apparently mineral water is supposed to help with leg cramps (who knew?) so I'm going out tomorrow in search of this little miracle.

I hope you don't think that I'm complaining about my aches and pains. Because the thing is, I would go through this and so much more just to have a baby. I feel so blessed to be pregnant. I love being pregnant. I love the way my belly is starting to pop out so that strangers are asking me if I'm expecting. I love the anticipation I feel waiting for the first time I get to feel the baby move. I love knowing that there is a little life growing inside of me and that I get to be a part of such a great miracle. All of the woes of pregnancy are nothing compared to the joy I feel . I am so blessed.

love,
Sara

My doc told me that calcium deficiency caused leg cramps....I tried drinking a big glass of milk before bed, and (don't know if it was coincidence) it worked for me!
Glad everything is going so wonderfully! :0)

Meg,

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to try it. Someone else told me that if I put a bar of soap in the bed at night that I won't have leg cramps! No offense to the person who imparted this wisdom, but I think I'm more likely to try the milk than the soap!

Baby steps

Guess what? I'm taking steps today to get just a little closer to my dream. We're off to the gym in a little bit to keep working towards losing those 38 pounds. I'm also working on a plan to sell specialty homemade cheesecakes during the holidays. Doing something I love and making some extra money for the people I love. Pretty great stuff!

Special K

I have developed a rather fond relationship with Kellogg's Special K Vanilla Almond. Low in fat (only 1.5 g) and made with whole grains, I eat this tasty treat as a meal and a snack. I'm eating some right now. Special thanks to Kat for introducing me to this delightful cereal. Our local Ingles has been running it on sale this past week, 2 for $4, so I stocked up. The milk is even on sale too, 2 for $5, making this treat yummy and affordable. Sweet, crispy flakes and crunchy almonds. What more could a girl ask for. By the way, you should go to Ingles. Everything is on sale. I picked up some lean ground beef today for $1.38 per pound. Now that's good for the budget. Low prices + good food = happy housewife

Let's go shopping at Aldi's!

If you're shopping at Aldi's this week, I recommend that you stock up on Eggs and Milk! Seriously, a dozen eggs for $1.09 and Milk for $2.19! The price of beef may have gone up, but I'm loving the other staples we get from a cow! I bought 4 dozen eggs this week. Overkill for sure, but when our family eats eggs, we usually eat 7 in one setting! Eggs and toast are a staple breakfast in our house - we eat that at least 4 times a week! It's fast and filling and cheap! If you're looking for something more exciting to do with your eggs, try making a breakfast casserole! I love this casserole from Ree, the Pioneer Woman. Everything she makes is delightful, but this recipe is especially great! As with most recipes, I tweaked it a bit to fit our tastes. For all of his perfect aspects, my handsome husband does not eat mushrooms. This could have been a deal breaker for me 13 years ago, but then I saw his drummer toned legs and I decided to look past his misjudgment! No ...
