Our crazy summer

To say that our lives have been busy this summer would be a total understatement. We bought our new house just one month ago. Since then Matt has been busy coordinating contractors (electrician, plumber, floor guy), painting, painting, and even more painting, demoing walls, rebuilding walls, taming an over grown yard, keeping up with his day job, and taking care of me while I'm busy growing our little girl and corralling our energetic and completely adorable Gu-cas! (That's what he calls himself!) Our friends and family have stepped in in a mighty way and helped us peel wallpaper, clean years of filth, paint very dry walls, and tame those overgrown bushes. It's been ministry in a very real way. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is what the Lord was talking about when He said the body should minister to the body. Oh yeah, and we've been getting our current house ready to put on the market.

I'm 36 weeks pregnant today and headed to the doctor's office in a couple hours for my weekly checkup. Lucas has been going with us in hopes of making him more comfortable with all the big changes going on around him. He seems to enjoy turning on the exam light and measuring my legs with the tape measurer (typically used to measure growing bellies). Lucas will not be at the hospital while I labor, poor kid would probably be traumatized. I do hope we can work around his nap schedule and let him be there after she is born. I'm feeling some anxiety thinking about his reaction to baby sister. I know walking into that birthing room with strangers all around and Mommy lying in a bed is going to be very overwhelming for his little heart and mind. I am praying that the first introduction will go as smoothly as possible.

Saturday we celebrated 5 years of marital bliss. Okay, so life hasn't always been bliss (we've faced some pretty big challenges), but our love for each other has grown and deepened in ways we never thought possible. I feel closer to Matt now than I did on our wedding day.

It sounds like things are going well on your end but crazy as always. Congrads on the new house and the soon to be new addition to the family. You are an amazing mother and I know that you are going to make the transition from one child to two gracefully and completely like a pro. I promise you (from experience) that once “baby girl” is here and everyone falls into their routine it will seem as though you can’t remember a time when you didn’t have them both. Try to worry less (I know it’s hard to do) and simple enjoy the next couple weeks. It’s all in god’s hands and I promise the first meeting (between Lucas and baby girl) will be a moment (as a mother) that you will never forget. It’s like god prepares them for the next one to come and you will see Lucas grow in leaps and bounds in just a couple week after the birth. Chance was actually there when Conner was born (up until I started pushing) and then he was brought right back in while they were cleaning Conner up. Chance and Daddy were the first to hold baby Conner once he was clean and I actually have pictures of the three of them taking a nap together in the recliner in the delivery room. I’m excited for you as you welcome your new little one. Just remember to take mommy time, you certainly deserve it. We love and miss you bunches.

Baby steps

Guess what? I'm taking steps today to get just a little closer to my dream. We're off to the gym in a little bit to keep working towards losing those 38 pounds. I'm also working on a plan to sell specialty homemade cheesecakes during the holidays. Doing something I love and making some extra money for the people I love. Pretty great stuff!

Special K

I have developed a rather fond relationship with Kellogg's Special K Vanilla Almond. Low in fat (only 1.5 g) and made with whole grains, I eat this tasty treat as a meal and a snack. I'm eating some right now. Special thanks to Kat for introducing me to this delightful cereal. Our local Ingles has been running it on sale this past week, 2 for $4, so I stocked up. The milk is even on sale too, 2 for $5, making this treat yummy and affordable. Sweet, crispy flakes and crunchy almonds. What more could a girl ask for. By the way, you should go to Ingles. Everything is on sale. I picked up some lean ground beef today for $1.38 per pound. Now that's good for the budget. Low prices + good food = happy housewife

Let's go shopping at Aldi's!

If you're shopping at Aldi's this week, I recommend that you stock up on Eggs and Milk! Seriously, a dozen eggs for $1.09 and Milk for $2.19! The price of beef may have gone up, but I'm loving the other staples we get from a cow! I bought 4 dozen eggs this week. Overkill for sure, but when our family eats eggs, we usually eat 7 in one setting! Eggs and toast are a staple breakfast in our house - we eat that at least 4 times a week! It's fast and filling and cheap! If you're looking for something more exciting to do with your eggs, try making a breakfast casserole! I love this casserole from Ree, the Pioneer Woman. Everything she makes is delightful, but this recipe is especially great! As with most recipes, I tweaked it a bit to fit our tastes. For all of his perfect aspects, my handsome husband does not eat mushrooms. This could have been a deal breaker for me 13 years ago, but then I saw his drummer toned legs and I decided to look past his misjudgment! No ...
