Our little scraggle toothed boy is growing so quickly. His face is even changing. Now that Lucas can pull up and crawl efficiently, he is everwhere. I am constantly watching my steps just to make sure there aren't any fingers or toes underfoot opening cabinets or playing with the doorstops. The world is wide open for Lucas, and we are doing everything we can to give him the boundaries he needs to adjust to this new found freedom. Thanks to Becky, I am currently reading "Baby Wise 2" (Parenting your Pretoddler Five to Fifteen Months). I couldn't put the book down last night. This morning I woke up armed with a new sense of purpose regarding parenting. Matt and I closely followed the original "Baby Wise", proclaiming its greatness when Lucas started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks. I can fondly remember the two of us hiding in the bathroom at the hospital, during the middle of the night, searching through the pages, desperate to figure out how to handle a baby that wanted to stay up all night and sleep all day.
I love the foundational principals that "Baby Wise" is based upon: Understand the priority of marriage (kids feel more secure when they know their parents love each other), Recognize the dangers of child-centered parenting (no, Lucas you are not the center of the world!), and Know how to avoid extremism in the parenting process. "Baby Wise 2" touts the idea that if you work with your baby during his "pretoddler" years, you can (hopefully) avoid some of the challenges most parents face with a toddler in the house. I am all for that!
So, I am pretty excited. Today we initiated our first baby sign - "more" which we are using during meal times. We also started the painful process of teaching Lucas to not drop his food/cup from the highchair. Apparently Annie (the dog) and Lucas has set up a partnership which involves Lucas dropping his food to her in exchange for Annie letting Lucas chase him around the house. I'm glad they're getting along, but I think we're going to have to figure out a new deal.
Oh, I almost forgot.... tooth number four broke through during the night! Now, Lucas really does look like a scraggle tooth. He has two teeth on the bottom and then two teeth on the top, but they aren't beside each other. What a cutie! I'll post a picture soon!
