Life is good

Today is Friday and Lucas is sound asleep in his crip, relaxing after his busy morning visiting Dr. Treash and visiting an Upstate favorite, Mama Penn's. Lucas is three weeks old today. Wow, that is so hard for me to wrap my mind around. We went to the doctor today for a quick weight-check. I had been concerned that Lucas wasn't eating enough at his feedings, so the doctor asked us to come in a week early instead of waiting until 4 weeks. We were all relieved the see that Lucas is gaining weight, in fact he is gaining at the exact rate we were hoping for. So, our little man now weighs 8 pounds and 13 ounces! Our days are simple, filled with feedings and diapers, laundry and dishes. And I love it. It has been an adjustment, going from a fulltime job chasing toddlers, to the simplicity of a newborn. At first, I had this fear that I would "spoil" our son - holding him "too much" or rocking him to sleep, but after some dear friends shared with me their r...

Our Day

I have to brag. I just can't help it. Let me tell you what my little man did last night. I fed Lucas at 10:00 last night and put him down around 11. Matt and I went to bed soon after and didn't wake up for 5, that's right -- count 'em 5 hours! I then fed Lucas again, put him back into his crib, and he slept for another 5 hours! Thank you Lord, we finally got some sleep! Granted, I am fully aware that this is not normal for a 10 day old baby and babies have a funny way of settling into a routine and switching it up suddenly. But I will take what I can get! Today was a very special day for me. Lucas and I went on our first official outing without Daddy or Grandma along to help! And we were only 15 minutes late! I find that to be quite an accomplishment considering how much stuff a baby travels with and how I am routinely late even without a baby in tow! We spent the afternoon with our friends Meg and Gardner and Becky and Andrew. Seeing our three little boys t...

1 Week!

Happy Birthday Lucas! Today you are 1 week old! And what a week it has been! The whirlwind of life is slowly becoming more familiar as Matt and I are adjusting to life with a newborn! We are estatic to report that Lucas had a wonderful night last night with 4 1/2 hours between one feeding and 5 1/2 hours between the next! Ah, sleep at last for Mommy and Daddy. It has definately been an adjustment only sleeping in spurts. What many of you with out babies don't realize is, the entire feeding process can last around an hour including a couple diaper changes. Which means that Mommy and Daddy slept around 3 hours, than another 4 hours last night. But it's the best so far, so we'll take it! :) This past week has brought so many changes in our lives. I've been riding a rollar coaster of emotions typical of a new mom, and Matt has been my rock. We've been running a tight schedule with Lucas, feeding every 2-3 hours during the day and initially every 3-4 at night....

Waiting....

Early this morning, Matt and I went to AnMed for our 40 week checkup. After yesterday's excitement, I had mixed emotions as to what we might find. (Quick update -- I've been having severe backpain, and when I called the dr. yesterday to ask a question, the nurse told me to go to the hospital! A few hours later, we were sent home because while I am 2 centimeters dilated, the contractions aren't strong enough.) Today's visit basically told us what we already knew -- labor is close, my body is definately making changes to put me in the "right" condition, but the contractions still aren't strong enough. I think Dr. Duniho could read the discouragment on our faces as we set in his office this morning. We further discussed the option of inducing labor versus waiting it out. I really appreciate Dr. Duniho leaving the choice up to us. He set a dead line for next Thursday as the absolute latest he would let me go without inducing. But between now and then, ...
Per the request of a dear friend (girl, you know I must I love you a lot), here is a picture of my swollen feet -- kind of reminds me of the Michelin Man!

Still Waiting.....

I'm 39 weeks today! I've stopped working (praise God!) and now I am practicing being a stay at home mom. I spent yesterday running errands, spending quality time with a dear friend, and cleaning like crazy. It felt great to be busy. Exhausting, but great. Kind of took my mind off of "waiting." Well, not really. It's hard to escape the feelings of anticipation and eagerness when I have a 24/7 reminder. Today has been the opposite of yesterday. I slept beautifully last night, which any woman who has ever been 9 months pregnant knows that a good night's rest can only be equated with an act of God. I've spent most of my day reading. I'm deeply engrossed in a christian fiction series by Karen Kingsbury and Gary Smalley. It's my mom's fault. She's the one who told me I just had to read these books. And boy was she right. Tonight is Home Group and I am thrilled with the thought of being with friends. Especially such great friends. Suc...

Shhh...... don't tell anyone

Shhh...... I have a secret.... come closer and maybe I'll tell you..... Tomorrow, August 16th, is my sweet husband's 30th birthday! But don't say anything; he thinks he's turning 29, again! At least that's what he's telling himself! :) In honor of Matt's special day, I am planning on going into labor! haha Just kidding! (or am I?) I thought you might enjoy catching a glimpse of Mattie celebrating in his younger years. And I was kidding about the secret.... feel free to let Matt know just how special he is tomorrow! I know he would love it! :) S
