1 Week!

Happy Birthday Lucas! Today you are 1 week old!
And what a week it has been! The whirlwind of life is slowly becoming more familiar as Matt and I are adjusting to life with a newborn! We are estatic to report that Lucas had a wonderful night last night with 4 1/2 hours between one feeding and 5 1/2 hours between the next! Ah, sleep at last for Mommy and Daddy. It has definately been an adjustment only sleeping in spurts. What many of you with out babies don't realize is, the entire feeding process can last around an hour including a couple diaper changes. Which means that Mommy and Daddy slept around 3 hours, than another 4 hours last night. But it's the best so far, so we'll take it! :)

This past week has brought so many changes in our lives. I've been riding a rollar coaster of emotions typical of a new mom, and Matt has been my rock. We've been running a tight schedule with Lucas, feeding every 2-3 hours during the day and initially every 3-4 at night. On Tuesday, we took Lucas for his first trip to visit the Pediatrician. Dr. Treash had warned us that Lucas would continue to lose his birth weight (he dropped from 8 pounds to 7 pounds 9 ounces in the hospital) during the first two weeks. However, all three of us were overjoyed when Lucas weighed in at 7 pounds 10.5 ounces, gaining 1.5 oz in two days! A quick check found that Lucas has no jaundice and his heart sounds perfect. Because Lucas was doing so well, we were given the green light to let Lucas start sleeping through the night without waking him for feedings. And so explains the success of last night! Thank you Dr. Treash for your sound advice!

Everyday, we are enthralled with new expressions and sounds Lucas makes. He is our joy, our heart. I am truly stunned with the amount of love I feel for him. This week has taught me so much about God's love for me and my desperate need for Him. Just as Lucas depends on us for everything, I am humbly aware of my utter dependancy on the Lord. I have to take a moment to praise Matt for adapting to fatherhood so beautifully. Matt has been by my side for almost every feeding, diaper change, and snuggle time. I told him just the other day that I don't feel like I am the sole one feeding our son (I'm nursing) -- I feel that we are feeding him together. Matt gets him up, changes his diaper, gives Lucas to me, than sits patiently for the 30-40 minutes he eats, burps him and changes his diaper again. Now that is a commited father!

In the next couple days, look for my birth story to appear. I am slowly preparing my thoughts, trying to process the events of that day so I can put it into words for others to experience. I hope that you enjoy it.

Today Matt and I are going to experience our first day with Lucas alone. My precious Momma has been staying with us since his birth. She has been one of the greatest blessing of this week, allowing me to focus on my child and not on the routine of life. We will miss her so much! Thanks Momma for showing us so much love! We love you!

love,
Sara

Although I don't know this couple and their new baby boy, I can totally relate to the joy, the jubilation, and yes - the exhaustion that new parents feel. I have a baby girl that will be 6 months old on September 18, and she is my everything - I can't and don't want to remember lift before her. I remember how difficult everything was in the beginning when we first brought her home from the hospital, but it will pass rather quickly. Enjoy your little one as he is a true gift from God! Congrats - he's a beauty!!

Baby steps

Guess what? I'm taking steps today to get just a little closer to my dream. We're off to the gym in a little bit to keep working towards losing those 38 pounds. I'm also working on a plan to sell specialty homemade cheesecakes during the holidays. Doing something I love and making some extra money for the people I love. Pretty great stuff!

Special K

I have developed a rather fond relationship with Kellogg's Special K Vanilla Almond. Low in fat (only 1.5 g) and made with whole grains, I eat this tasty treat as a meal and a snack. I'm eating some right now. Special thanks to Kat for introducing me to this delightful cereal. Our local Ingles has been running it on sale this past week, 2 for $4, so I stocked up. The milk is even on sale too, 2 for $5, making this treat yummy and affordable. Sweet, crispy flakes and crunchy almonds. What more could a girl ask for. By the way, you should go to Ingles. Everything is on sale. I picked up some lean ground beef today for $1.38 per pound. Now that's good for the budget. Low prices + good food = happy housewife

Let's go shopping at Aldi's!

If you're shopping at Aldi's this week, I recommend that you stock up on Eggs and Milk! Seriously, a dozen eggs for $1.09 and Milk for $2.19! The price of beef may have gone up, but I'm loving the other staples we get from a cow! I bought 4 dozen eggs this week. Overkill for sure, but when our family eats eggs, we usually eat 7 in one setting! Eggs and toast are a staple breakfast in our house - we eat that at least 4 times a week! It's fast and filling and cheap! If you're looking for something more exciting to do with your eggs, try making a breakfast casserole! I love this casserole from Ree, the Pioneer Woman. Everything she makes is delightful, but this recipe is especially great! As with most recipes, I tweaked it a bit to fit our tastes. For all of his perfect aspects, my handsome husband does not eat mushrooms. This could have been a deal breaker for me 13 years ago, but then I saw his drummer toned legs and I decided to look past his misjudgment! No ...
